One of my initial works for a solo instrument. Exacting stasis is scored for B-flat Clarinet and explores a continual push and pull between moments of balance and stillness. Through a cyclic presentation of sound material the listener is guided down a path that returns to itself, the material that concludes is much as it began. Each movement explores a different aspect of reaching an equilibrium or sense of stasis. Though the end result of each is a balanced one, the manner in which it is achieved is always different and evolving. This work is written for and dedicated to Laura Kidder.
